8th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ROCK PHYSICS
February 23-27, 2026 AUCKLAND - NEW ZEALAND
This workshop brings together researchers from academia and industry to advance our understanding of the physical properties of rocks and their role in the Earth’s crust. We focus on how geophysical properties such as elastic wave velocities, seismic attenuation, electrical resistivity, dielectric constant, poroelasticity, and geomechanics respond to changes in stress, fluids, temperature, and rock microstructure across scales. The programme will feature theoretical, numerical, and experimental advances, including digital rock physics and innovative laboratory methods.
We look forward to your contributions and to welcoming you to Auckland – Tāmaki Makaurau in 2026!

Core areas in rock physics, focusing on how rock and fluid properties affect geophysical responses through theory, modeling, and laboratory experiments

Applications in energy geoscience, including carbon storage, hydrogen and methane storage, and geothermal energy

Frontiers in rock physics, such as natural hydrogen exploration, in-situ carbon mineralisation, stimulated hydrogen production, planetary research and innovative experimental methods

Geohazards and active processes, including fault and fracture mechanics, earthquake science and volcanology
